Charl de Wet

Charl de Wet grew up in South Africa where he learned piano and cello. In 1982 he won 4th prize in the Montevideo international piano competition and later was a semi-finalist in the ARD’s competition for Duo pianists in Munich. He has had masterclasses with Fou Ts’ong, Oxana Jablonskaya, Olivier Cazal and Leon Fleisher with whom he subsequently studied. He is currently Professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery at Washington University in St Louis. In 2023 he returned to the piano and has won prizes in the amateur piano competitions in Paris, Boston and Warsaw and in 2024 was the Grand prize winner of the PianoLink competition in Italy. He has completed 17 marathons including Boston, Paris, New York, Chicago and Berlin. He currently studies with Alla Voskoboynikova.
