J. Rándal Ortiz
Rándal didn’t grow up in a family of musicians. His first exposure to classical music was at age 15, though his fascination with the instrument began around age 9 when he saw a TV commercial and was captivated by the design of the piano keyboard. However, it wasn't until he was 18 that he was finally able to begin his formal piano training. Despite this late start—and having to study music pedagogy, which was the only option available in his city—he has performed in various competitions. Furthermore, since 2010, when he had to make the difficult decision to pursue a career path outside of music, he has continued to participate in amateur piano competitions around the world. Currently, Rándal serves as the Discipline Coordinator at Instituto Pedagógico Friedrich Froebel, a private school of 900 students in Barrancabermeja, Colombia (since 2020). A versatile professional, he is also a Visual Basic programmer (self educated) who develops custom tools to automate academic and administrative processes, as well as an accounting consultant. Additionally, he manages operations as the Administrative Director of his family’s women’s shoe manufacturing business based in Bucaramanga, Colombia.
